Election 2010 Media Release 2010-05-11 My people here in Laventille in Port of Spain, you will remember in the campaign of 2007 when I came onto the hills of Laventille I said Trinidad and Tobago will only rise when Laventille rises. And today I am so happy to witness the first step in that rise by the foundation of the Makandal Daaga foundation for Laventille by my good friend Mr. Jack Warner. So we have started the process of rising. It's not going to be by rhetoric, it is going to be by hard work, dedication, loyalty, sincerity and trust. Then I told you that my mission was to get the politics right and a number of us formed the Congress of the People. We have been on that mission and we continue to be on that mission but then I met the National Joint Action Committee here in Port of Spain and met all the members of that committee, had many dialogues with them, and I realized that getting the politics right was not enough; getting the community right was necessary as well, and so we formed a close alliance between the Congress of The People and the National Joint Action Committee. I am proud to sit on this platform here today in the presence of Makandal Daaga and our colleagues from NJAC. |

According to reports from residents and the School's Administration, some students clashed with villagers in the area yesterday afternoon. In that incident, one car was vandalized and a person was injured, resulting in their hospitalization. |

Election 2010 Campaign Speech 2010-05-06 My people in Point Fortin, our citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, Point Fortin tonight is a place from which a new beginning is emerging in Trinidad and Tobago. This is a moment when all the energies of our people, that have been suppressed for so long will be freed, so that we can take on the challenges of tomorrow. And this is a time when the reign of Patrick Manning is coming to an end. I felt it in the air, and I felt that deep sense of privilege to have on this platform of the Congress of the People - the People's Partnership - someone of the significance and stature to share this platform with us here tonight, and I say to my friend and comrade, Ancel Roget, "This is an historic presence that you have provided for this nation." I know that because, in my understanding of the history of our country, the Oilfield Workers Trade Union has always been at the forefront of a genuine independence for our land, and today they have joined the political battle with the rest of the people of Trinidad and Tobago to create that independence of the 21st century. |

Election 2010 Campaign Speech 2010-05-05 18:05:35 My people of San Fernando and Trinidad and Tobago, the time has come. The moment is near. Victory is within our reach and freedom is once again with us. The People’s Partnership is about to be born as the next government of Trinidad and Tobago and the leader of that government will be Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar who has been at the helm of the People’s Partnership. My colleagues, I listened attentively to Mr. Makandal Daaga and Mr. Errol McLeod and I sensed the beginning of a new emergence of a history that has been denied our people. I sensed when I listened to them that what we have taking place now in Trinidad and Tobago is a fusion of the history that once had great promise for this land. It is a resolve of the present to deal with the problems of today and out of that has emerged a new energy among our people, an energy that will create a unity in this country that we have never seen before and we shall preserve it, we shall protect it and we shall make it work for us. |

Election 2010 Campaign Speech 2010-05-05 18:05:35 Thank you, thank you so much, people of Diego Martin and my friends in Trinidad and Tobago. The moment is here. Victory is there. The society is about to be freed again, and a new government will be installed in this land of ours on May 25th, 2010. It did not happen by mistake. Your presence, your persistence, your perspiration here in Diego Martin was a beacon of light for the rest of Trinidad and Tobago as we continued that road to where we are today. I want to say a special word of appreciation to one person from the Diego Martin constituency, for being with us on this journey for all these years. And I say to Mr Joe Pires, thank you for what you have done for the people of Diego Martin. |
